the Doctors of Plastic Surgery Associates
Dr. Francisco Canales
Since 1992, Dr. Francisco (Paco) Canales of Santa Rosa's Plastic Surgery Associates on Quigg Drive, has served the plastic surgery needs of patients from Marin County, Sonoma and Napa, as well as those from outside of the country.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Canales earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Harvard College in 1978, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Stanford University in 1982. He completed his surgical training, as well as his Plastic Surgery Residency at Stanford University Hospital.
Prior to co-founding Santa Rosa's Plastic Surgery Associates with his wife, Dr. Heather Furnas, Dr. Canales opened a practice in Boston, where he received a faculty appointment in plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Canales relocated to Sonoma County, where he served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, as well as Chief of Surgery at Warrack Hospital.
Today, he is board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the elite American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

He competed in a great number of international competitions, including the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He now enjoys Masters Swimming with the Santa Rosa Masters Swimming Team.
When Dr. Canales isn't returning to Latin America to volunteer his surgical skills to repair cleft lips and other birth defects in children from Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina or Kenya, he also enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children, Diego and Siena.
Dr. Heather Furnas
Since 1992, Dr. Heather Furnas of Santa Rosa's Plastic Surgery Associates on Quigg Drive, has served the needs of not only those patients seeking plastic surgery in Marin County, Sonoma and Napa, but those from outside of the country as well.
Dr. Furnas earned her Bachelor of Science and also a Master of Science from Stanford University in 1980. She then graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine in 1984, before returning to Stanford University to complete a six-year residency in Plastic Surgery. The focus of her present practice is exclusively on cosmetic surgery of the face, body and breast.
Years before co-founding Santa Rosa's Plastic Surgery Associates with her husband, Dr. Francisco Canales, Dr. Furnas spent a year in Kenya with her father, a plastic surgeon with the East African Flying Doctors. Her time there spurred a lifelong dedication to volunteerism, donating her time and skills in the service of children born with birth defects in Peru, Honduras, Western Samoa, the Philippines and El Salvador.
In 1990, Dr. Furnas received an appointment to the plastic surgery faculty at Harvard Medical School. At that time, her private practice was based at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Two years later, Dr. Furnas relocated to Sonoma County, where she has served as President of the Sonoma County Medical Association and as a delegate to the California Medical Association, as well as served on the editorial board of Sonoma County's Physician Magazine.
She is board certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and the prestigious American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
An accomplished artist, her passion for the arts also includes theatre, ballet and music; some of her artwork is on display at Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa. Dr. Furnas and her husband have two children, Diego and Siena.
